🌱Plant Growth Operations Assistant

Job Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Plant Growth Facilities Operations Assistant to support the daily operations and maintenance of our plant growth facilities. This role involves ensuring optimal growing conditions for plants, assisting with plant care, maintaining facility equipment, and ensuring the efficient operation of the facilities. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plant science and agriculture, as well as strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of plant growth environments, such as greenhouses, growth chambers, and an indoor vertical aeroponics system.
  • Monitor and maintain environmental conditions (e.g., temperature, humidity, light, CO2 levels) to ensure optimal plant growth.
  • Assist with watering, fertilizing, and general care of plants, ensuring that plant health is maintained.
  • Support the planting, transplanting, and harvesting of crops or experimental plants.
  • Track plant growth, health, and development, and document observations for research purposes.
  • Maintain and operate growth equipment such as irrigation systems, lights, climate control systems, and other facility tools.
  • Assist with preparing growth media, soil, and containers for planting and propagation.
  • Manage and monitor the inventory of seeds, fertilizers, growth media, and other plant care supplies.
  • Ensure proper waste management practices for plant material, soil, and other organic waste.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and organized work environment in all plant growth areas.
  • Support the collection of data related to plant growth experiments, including measurements of growth rates, yield, and other relevant parameters.
  • Collaborate with research teams to support experiments, ensuring that all plant growth procedures are carried out in accordance with protocols.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with safety standards when working with chemicals, equipment, and plant materials.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports or documentation regarding plant health, growth conditions, and facility maintenance.
  • Help with troubleshooting and minor repairs of plant growth equipment or systems as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Plant Science, Horticulture, Agriculture, or related field.
  • Previous experience working in a plant growth facility, greenhouse, or similar environment is a plus.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse operations, climate control systems, and plant irrigation systems. Knowledge of aeroponics systems is a plus.
  • Ability to monitor and adjust environmental conditions (e.g., light, humidity, temperature) for optimal plant growth.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions carefully.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate with staff and researchers.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-30 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions if required for outdoor planting or monitoring.
  • Valid California driving license

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a plant growth environment, which may include exposure to varying temperature, humidity, and light conditions.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25-30 pounds, especially for tasks involving plant pots, soil, and supplies.
  • Comfortable working with potentially hazardous materials such as fertilizers, pesticides, and plant growth chemicals, following safety protocols.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed indoors (greenhouses, growth chambers) requiring the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Exposure to plants, soil, and agricultural materials is common.
  • Some tasks may require working in variable weather conditions or handling plant material and growth media.

 

Employment Type: Part-Time (Up to 28 hours)

Salary: $22 – $24/ hour
Location: Davis, CA; Woodland, CA.

🔬Laboratory Operations Assistant (Part-Time)

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Laboratory Operations Assistant to support the daily activities and functionAs within our laboratory. The successful candidate will assist with the coordination of laboratory processes, manage inventory, maintain equipment, and ensure compliance with safety and quality control standards. The role requires strong organizational skills, a good understanding of laboratory operations, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing laboratory operations, ensuring the lab is properly organized, clean, and functional.
  • Support the laboratory team with the preparation, handling, and disposal of materials, stock solutions, culture media and samples.
  • Maintain accurate records of inventory, track lab supplies, and assist with ordering and restocking items as needed.
  • Help maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of experiments and laboratory tests.
  • Support the implementation and adherence to laboratory safety protocols and health regulations.
  • Monitor and log laboratory activities, ensuring that procedures and experiments are conducted in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Help maintain proper labeling and storage of chemical reagents, biological samples, and other laboratory materials.
  • Coordinate with other departments or external partners to ensure timely execution of laboratory tasks or projects.
  • Ensure that safety equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first-aid kits, is regularly checked and maintained
  • Participate in the Safety Committee and assist with laboratory safety inspections.
  • Participate in training and development to stay updated on laboratory techniques, safety protocols, and new equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Laboratory Technology, Science, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory environment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory equipment, materials, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and maintain attention to detail.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to troubleshoot minor technical issues.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials following safety guidelines and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Work Environment:

  • The role is based on a laboratory setting where proper safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used.
  • Some exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and laboratory equipment is expected.
